Why do you need guardian homes?
We want to be able to work with different bloodlines and make good breeding choices, without having a huge group of cats living together in one house.
That is where guardian homes come in. Some of our breeding cats live with carefully chosen families in their own home. They are, technically, still part of our breeding program, but they get to live in a smaller group with lots of individual attention. For us, this is a much nicer way to do it. It allows us to work with more cats and more bloodlines, without overcrowding our own home or keeping too many cats together. So we can spend time and energy on all our cats and litters.
What is different?
In simple terms: you buy one of our female kittens for a reduced price, we pay for the health testing and the castration/sterilisation price is covered. In return, we keep the possibility to have matings with the cat (if male), or one or two litters (if female). You also have the option to buy a kitten from the litter, in case you fall in love with one of your own cat’s babies! Our kitten will be your cat and live with you as part of your family. Everything else stays the same.
When the female is in heat, she will come back to us for mating with our male. You will keep me updated on her weight gain and send photos. Later, she will come back again before her due date, so she can give birth safely under my care and supervision, and raise her kittens here (separately from our normal cat group). Once her kittens are old enough, she goes back home to you again with or without a kitten.
If it is a male, he will come back to us multiple times for mating, as it is rarely successful the first time(s). After a confirmed pregnancy or once kittens are born, we will also pay for his castration. This usually means we try to use him as a tomcat as quickly as possible, and he will retire when he is around 1–1.5 years old. We however do not place males with an existing cat-group, in this example. Solo-keeping or with another sibling.
