Why do you need guardian homes?
We want to be able to work with different bloodlines and make good breeding choices, without having too big of a group. That is where guardian homes come in. Some of our breeding cats live with carefully chosen families in their own home. They are, technically, still part of our breeding program, but they get to live in a smaller group with lots of individual attention. With their owner, their family. This might sound strange at first, but allows us to work with more cats and more bloodlines, without overcrowding our own home or keeping too many cats together. Sometimes we rehome our adults because they are simply not fit to be in a big group. But in the case of rehoming to a guardian – this allows us to still breed with her but not have her stressed or castrated/rehomed as pet (and then lose a valuable line, for example).. You will be helping not just us, but in my eyes, also the Ragdoll breed.
What is different?
By being a so called Guardian, us and a lot of other breeders can keep very valuable cats for breeding, without our own groups getting too big.
A male usually gets one or two visits (at the guardians home) from a female, and then gets castrated (that the breeders usually pays for).
A female comes back to the cattery once for a mating, and then for the giving birth + raising babies. After that she also gets castrated (again, that the breeders usually pays for). After that, they will continue their life as a pet, but she is then also fully tested on everything – a little bonus that usually costs up to 500,- per cat. The other bonus is that Guardian breeding cats are fully yours after this, but are ”sold at a reduced price” – to explain it very bluntly. Meaning, you get a purebred, healthy Ragdoll for a cheaper price, a free castration and free health testing. In the past we had a family who really wanted a kitten from ”their” girl, so that is also an option. It is not for everyone, but we are super happy that some families are happy to do this.
